IIM Ranchi Global Leap Aiming for International Acclaim

  • 2024-04-24 06:00:42

The Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (IIM Ranchi) is setting its sights on the global stage, aiming to compete with top-tier international management institutes. In a recent interview with The Free Press Journal, IIM Ranchi’s Director, Deepak Kumar Srivastava, detailed the institute's ambitious plans, including a slew of international collaborations and student-centric initiatives.

"We are not just looking at competing with other IIMs, but with the best management schools worldwide," Srivastava stated. "Our strategic plan,  focuses on education, impactful research, social impact, and international collaboration – pillars that will establish IIM Ranchi as a globally recognized yet locally responsive business school."

Since his appointment in August 2022, Srivastava, a former faculty member of IIM-Kozhikode, has been at the forefront of these transformative changes. Under his leadership, IIM Ranchi has moved to a new campus and has already started to revamp its curriculum to meet market demands. "Revamping our curriculum is something that we have started to look into so that it can be more aligned with the market requirements," Srivastava explained. "The curriculum review committee will make the final decisions."

The institute has introduced Enrichment Electives, offering courses in Water Management, Sports Management, Tribal Language, Theatre, and Cinema, to provide a more holistic education. "We want to enrich our students’ understanding beyond traditional management education," shared Srivastava.

Embracing the rich tribal culture of Jharkhand is also on the agenda. "We've introduced a human library, a concept popular in Europe, which allows students to learn from the experiences of others as if they were reading a book," he added. "Additionally, we've launched a community library to give back to society and named our buildings after popular local spots, further enhancing our commitment to the region."

On the international front, IIM Ranchi has launched the Young Changemakers program. "This initiative invites international school students to understand social problems in nearby villages, fostering social intelligence," Srivastava described. This year, the program welcomed students from six different countries to Ranchi.

Srivastava also announced that IIM Ranchi is on the verge of receiving AACSB accreditation, a prestigious endorsement by a non-profit organization that accredits business schools and MBA programs. "We have already cleared the AACSB final round, and by next year, we expect to be fully accredited," he said confidently.

To further its international visibility, IIM Ranchi has introduced an international visiting professor position. "We have identified six to seven professors who will be joining us on campus for three to six months at the beginning of this academic year," Srivastava revealed. With these bold steps, IIM Ranchi is poised to make a significant leap onto the global management education scene, driven by the vision and leadership of its director, Deepak Kumar Srivastava.
